BP are the top killers of life in the Gulf, surpassing Valdez

It looks like the BP has earned the distinction of the top kill indeed.  Estimates are that the Gulf Coast disaster has surpassed the Exxon Valdez (http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20100527/ap_on_bi_ge/us_gulf_oil_spill).  How about changing their name to Big Polluter, or Bad People?  Why has our government been or seemed to be so complacent about this?  Does Big Polluter have our government in their pocket?  Where has been the media coverage to the degree that this is now an unprecedented environmental disaster?  What are the projected long-term impacts to life in the Gulf?
