home-made fitted diapers, no leak, samples, and europe

Tilda's mom is successfully making home-made fitted diapers.  The first ones are a little snug and thick, but the flats that go inside are of thick fabric.  And, badumdumdum.... the first peepee diaper in the home-made did not leak.  We're on the road to cloth diapering.  Tilda's still getting a mix of disposables and cloth.  But we're getting more cloth diapers, particularly all-in-ones and fitteds, with wraps that go over the fitteds.  Apparently the 'flips' are good covers/wraps.  Tilda seems to have no animosity about switching from disposable to cloth, but she's a little under the weather and is distracted by that.  I will say she was crying when the first home-made fitted diaper was wet around her.  The home-mades do not have the magical synthetics and chemicals that disposables employ for absorption.  So, she's not used to feeling the wet on her and she'll likely need adjusting to that and I suspect we'll have to adjust to changing her diaper more frequently.  Incentive to learn the potty training?  When does that happen?

Today, Tilda's running samples with her mom.  I need to determine the university's PhD student summer graduation deadlines.  I continue to have communications with some people in Europe about a potential post-doc opportunity over there, exciting and frightening.  A little like having Tilda.

  1. I don't know why I don't comment more. I love your blog. So little fluff. :)

Congrats on the cloth diapering! I found it very rewarding, until we started dealing with diaper stink issues. If you can beat that, you've got it MADE!

And yes, if you use cloth you WILL potty train earlier. Huge plus!

  2. Thanks for posting a message. Aha, since Tilda's our first, we often forget that the pooh will someday begin to smell like something other than caramel and whipped cream.

The implication here though is that disposables de-odorize pooh? I did get the sense just from that first home-made fitted diaper that Tilda did not enjoy the pee against her. I've heard or read that cloth diapering leads to earlier potty training. That is something to look forward to.
