dork parents

I've been a bit of a slacker on this blog.  Sorry.  Having a newborn baby is pretty time-consuming and trying to conduct dissertation research at the same time takes a lot.  Oh well.  Today is my first day at home with Tilda as stay at home dad.  Since we have no maternity leave and my wife's research is primarily based on running samples, well, then she's running samples today and I just completed about two hours of slow feeding, burping, diaper changing, clothes-changing, eye-snot and crusty removals, and go to sleeping alreadys.  Tilda is now sleeping and I am reaping the rewards of stay at home fatherhood...watching Olympic curling while doing computer modeling.  The first couple weeks of parenthood are very busy.  I am though finding myself able to continue to do my research, at off hours, and discontinuous intervals, but there is time for it.  What I've found to be the most challenging part thus far is focusing on some aspect of my research for a couple hours, then the interruption of waking baby and all that comes with it, and then maybe an hour later, I try to re-immerse myself in what I was doing an hour ago, and there's some mental energy expended just to get my head back into it.  Well, I should take these moments while I have them and get to calculations.  Speaking of numbers, Tilda is clearly eating/drinking more these days and I would like to see a graph of time (say in weeks) versus ounces per feeding.  We started feeding her 2-3 oz per feeding (when not on the boob) and it seems that now she'll feed for a couple hours sometimes, taking in on the order of 3-5 oz.  Hmmm, what is the first derivative of baby feedings as a function of time?  Poor Tilda with her dork parents.
